The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes 1

5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.






Mat 5:5
Happy are the meek—They that hold all their passions and affections evenly balanced.

They will inherit the earth—They will have all things really necessary for life and godliness. They will enjoy whatever portion God hath given them here, and shall hereafter possess the new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Mat 5:7
The merciful—The tender-hearted: They will be shown mercy—Whatever mercy therefore we desire from God, the same let us show to our brethren. He will repay us a thousand fold, the love we bear to any for his sake.
